"AI is a Net Negative" - AI Enablement Reflection with Mike Pacchione

Going from net negative belief to practical win

My core belief around AI adoption for the majority of the population follows 2 core principles:

  1. Are they interested at all

  2. What is meaningful to them

Overwhelm and Hype

By and large all of the AI narrative right now is hype and overwhelm from the incredible speed of iteration and advancement with the technology.

Where I help people differently from the vast majority of others is having one-on-one conversations and understanding where the person is at and where, if at all, AI can fit in their current workflow.

Mike Pacchione

I had the delight to have a video call with Mike Pacchione a couple weeks back. Early on in the call Mike made known that in his view by and large AI is a 'net negative'.

In that moment I think people could respond in a few ways but generally my opinion and belief is that you have to meet people where they are. My aim is not to change Mike's belief. I can sympathize with this belief and feeling because in many place and to many people the ways in which they are having to adopt it is a negative.

My only goal is to find the areas of resistance and friction in Mike's business and daily workflow and say, "here, here is an area AI can help."

A Simple Question

So for this session with Mike I just asked a simple question, "what in your daily workflow or in your work right now just makes you go 'ugh' when you think about doing it."

For Mike, and for many, we have a AI transcription service or a AI that records our calls and transcribes the call. But following up on that is not straight forward and not some where that many people want to put the mental effort.

20 Minute Win

In 20 minutes we connected Fathom to Claude and had a couple conversations with old transcripts for Mike to interact with, ask questions of, and follow up on client calls.

It doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be specific to the person and meaningful.

Don't manufacture things on a clients behalf. See where something would genuinely be good for them. If there isn't somewhere they could get a win don't make one happen. Guide them or encourage them.

Be for them. And help them do more of what they want to do.

If you are interested in a conversation I have an upcoming cohort doing this exact implementation, one-on-one, with you to adopt AI in a way that is meaningful for you to build the business you want and do the work you want to do. You can find more information here.

If something peaked your interest, please book a call.
